Good evening Danzig lovers,

I have visited Orunia today morning. I went through Park Orunski to ul. Goscinna (Hauptstraße). Ofcourse I had camera with me. I have taken pictures of some places which looked good in the morning sun.

I uploaded 13 pictures to my Picasa album. First photo is here: https://picasaweb.google.com/103953387695929505721/Gdansk2015#6114595001499356050

I hope you will enjoy it. Patrick

Hello Patrick,
yes, we do.

And I found this Gdańsk picture postcard of 1938 between my old photos. I believe that most of you have seen just before exactly this view.

Hi.

Finally. I have taken a series of pictures of NBP building. I stitched large picture of the building. It is not perfect but completely usable. Image is monstrous 385 mega pixels. Jpeg file is 200MB of data. Picasa did not accept the file as it is too large.

WARNING:
Opening such an image in full resolution is both memory an processor hungry. On computer with less than 4GB of operating (main) memory, browser or system will likely freeze. In every case opening process is slow. For those with older hardware I suggest to open smaller version and also look at pictures of building decorations.

Small version 2048x1723: https://www.flickr.com/photos/patjakub/15906992323/sizes/k/

Pictures of building decoration are in my Picasa album Gdansk 2015 (https://plus.google.com/photos/103953387695929505721/albums/6113818005794262481?banner=pwa&sort=4)

Inge. Of course it is one of the most famous view of Gdansk. It is remarkable building. Also most visible one when you approach Gdansk. It is nice to have a postcard like yours. I don't have any of them yet. Big tower of the church is open to visitors. You can go to the top and see the view of the Old Town from above and the rest of Gdansk on the horizon. I am planing to go there and take some good pictures. I am just waiting for a good weather for it.

Patrick, thank you for your fotos! I think, you've seen that you got -with one unwanted exception- a great feedback!

Ohne Grüße + verärgert,

Guten Abend Mariano,

Hello Dominik,
thank you for this great pictures:-)
Normally at the internet als in books it is hardly to find these kind of pictures.
You´ve got a very good eye for that.

I was reading your warning: "On computer with less than 4GB of operating (main) memory, browser or system will likely freeze."
But I tried it.....now it is likely freezed..., I like my computer (smile).

Hallo,

Hello Everybody,

Thank for support from all of you.

Hello mariano. Nice to meet you. I hope our relations are going to be better. No one benefits from fights between our nations as history shows. I like your country very much. I have been living in Paderborn, Nordrhein - Westfalen 5 - 6 times for a period of month each time. I have been riding a bicycle around. Visited Bielefeld, Schloss Neuhaus, Bad Driburg, Lipstadt, and more. Cycled through countrysides. Also have been to Düsseldorf and Köln. Have taken thousands photos. Germany is beautiful country and I like people there too.

Hallo Patrick,
Weiter so :-).

Lieben Gruß

Hi Inge Gisela,

There will be more photo of Orunia. Especially in Spring when everything is most beautiful. Yes the Radunia Canal is completed and looks nice. I like to walk along Radunia as well. More often I ride bicycle there.

I studied a map printed in 1918 to find a lake you have told here. Only lakes I found was in Hoene Park. One is very small, not suitable for sailing. Second are bigger and good for sailing by boat. These two lakes are today in Park Orunski. I guess your grandma was on the larger lake.

Hi Rudolf,

My visit to ul. Saperow was unexpected. I have been thinking about your house at the moment of taking pictures but I didn't check exact address before. I decided to photograph side of the street lit by the sun in hope that I hit your house. Don't worry. Next time when I visit my parents in good weather I prepare myself and take picture of the house.

Guten Tag,

After reading Der Barbara friedhof in Schidlitz (http://forum.danzig.de/showthread.php?11541-Der-Barbarafriedhof-in-Schidlitz&highlight=Park+Bema) thread I was thinking on which cementery can be found any traces of Danzig. Wolfgang has pictures of Friedhof Hochstrieß. @Wolfgang. I am not very knowledgable about history. I was unaware of such graves on cementary on ul. Slowackiego.

Finally I decided to visit Der Garnisonriedhof am Olivaer Tor (Cmentarz Garnizonowy). I found some traces and took pictures. Then, welcome to Gdansk 2015 on Picasa (https://picasaweb.google.com/103953387695929505721/Gdansk2015?noredirect=1).

Hi Ulrich,

I replaced photo of "Tramway Path". Numbers of pictures changes because they are sorted by date taken in reverse. Do you think it would be better to sort photos by date taken with newest at the end?

Pat.

Hi Pat,

Many thanks for correction. I would prefer to complete the new title this way: "Old Danziger Train Path on Granary Island".
Sorting your photos is just up to you.

Hello Pat,

Thank you so much for all these excellent photos seen by your link. I'm specially interested in the last ones of Granary Island, taken in March 2015.

An alle:

Ulrich

Guten Morgen,

With little of time and with struggle with software I finally processed the rest of photos of Granary Island I have taken 2 weeks ago. Photos are in the album https://picasaweb.google.com/103953387695929505721/Gdansk2015

During the processing I updated a small part of my complex Linux system. Then every little piece of software started to make trouble. I am personally against for updates of serious computing systems. Especially automatic updates are evil of all kinds.

Have nice time watching the pictures. Each one is geo-tagged so have a look on map as well.

Enjoy,
Pat.

Dzień dobry Pat,

Wonderful again your new photos of the northern Granary Island! Thank you for all your efforts and your trouble with them. - Is it true that there is a riverside way now completely round this part of the island?

You should contact interested media with your photo documentation.

Have a nice weekend with your family.

Thanks.

Yes it is. You can now walk around the Island which is brilliant idea. However like everything in Poland it is not completed to the last detail. For example on one end you can walk in with wheelchair/pram/pushchair and on the other end are stairs with no support for pushchair. This place is now very attractive to parents.

I have added 5 more pics of the Island. Four taken today from St. Mary's Church tower. Also I am going to take the last two photos for now. To have complete view of the Island.

Very valuable impressions I think for most of us, Patrick. Far away from Gdansk it is always interesting to see the developments there, esp. now the Granary Island, I assume here seen from the Tower of the old town hall.

Thanks a lot and happy easter, too.

Marc

Hello Patrick,
also from me a big thank you from south of Germany.
I wonder how it will be, when I am able to come to Gdansk and see everything with my own eyes:-)

Most Siennicki (Breitenbach Brücke) was in renovation last year. Now the bridge is open for usage. There are new tramway tracks, new road surface and strengthened structure.

The bridge was constructed in 1912. Severely damaged in 1945. Rebuilt in 1947 but not as a movable bridge (opening for boats).

Inspired by hundred year old photographs of Breitenbach Brücke I visited the place and took fresh photos. As you can see there are still construction elements of the original bridge.

I hope you will enjoy this.
